A thieving truck driver is being hunted by police after taking off with a fully-laden trailer north of Brisbane last week.

Police say the driver entered a distribution yard at Banyo between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning and left with a trailer filled with 24 tonnes of steel products.

Police have released registration details and the dimensions of the trailer in hope of catching the culprit.

"The trailer is described as a 2003 Ophee trailer with Queensland Registration 513QIL, it is 13 metres (43 feet) in length with a flat bed and side gates," a police statement says.

"The semi- trailer was parked in the yard at the Nudgee Road business and was fully laden with a significant amount of various steel products ready for delivery."

Police say the trailer also contained a valuable tool box and tarps.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
