A brazen truck driver has stolen a shipping container of high performance tyres, leaving police clueless and a tyre business $100,000 worse off.

The tyres were taken from a warehouse in Silverwater on Egerton Street in an incident police believe occurred between 2pm January 9 and 6am yesterday.

Police do not know how many offenders committed the act, but they believe a truck was driven into the yard and took the container and a trailer both filled with $100,000 worth of tyres.

Police from Flemington Local Area Command were called to the business after the theft was discovered and set up a crime scene and began questioning nearby businesses.

Anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious around the warehouse or has information which might help investigations has been urged to contact Auburn Police on 02 9646 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“Meanwhile members of the public are reminded to be wary of anyone offering to sell them high performance, brand name car tyres at unrealistic prices and report any such incident to police,” a police statement says.
