Hume Highway closed in both directions after a fatal collision between two trucks

January 15, 2010

The Hume Highway has been shut down in the NSW Riverina district after a fatal collision between two trucks.

Police say two prime movers collided about 1.15am today one kilometre south of Woomargama and both drivers died at the scene.

Both lanes of the highway are expected to be closed until at least mid-afternoon today.

Northbound traffic has been diverted on the Olympic Highway via Wagga and southbound traffic has been diverted at Holbrook to Culcairn and then the Olympic Highway.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue and police will prepare a report for the information of the coroner,” a police statement says.

The crash followed an incident in Queensland yesterday evening south of Brisbane at Loganlea.

Loganlea Road was closed for more than two hours after a sedan collided with a truck.

“The crash occurred around 5pm near the intersection of University Road,” Queensland Police says.

Police did not release any information about the drivers except that the car owner was taken to hospital.

“Their details and condition is unknown,” police say.
