Heavy rainfall has played havoc on Queensland highways, with road closures and warnings of extreme weather conditions potentially limiting access to parts of the state.
The Bruce Highway in North Queensland between Townsville and Ayr was yesterday shut down due to a flooded bridge.
The Landsborough Highway in western Queensland was also cut off due to the creek crossing flooding, with both incidents prompting police to warn of dangers to motorists.
“Motorists and members of the public are reminded of the hazardous and unpredictable nature of flood waters and the dangers associated with storm debris and road washouts,” a police statement says.
A safety message has also been issued urging people to prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall in North Queensland.
“Members of the public are advised to avoid flooded roads, creeks and watercourses and motorists are also reminded that road closures and road conditions can change rapidly as creeks and water courses can rise and fall quickly,” police say.
Meanwhile, an investigation is continuing into a crash involving a car and truck south of Brisbane last week.
The driver of the car trapped before being taken to hospital with minor arm injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.
