Rock throwers strike on M7

Police hunt for rock throwers after a weekend attack from an overpass left a woman covered in glass

February 8, 2010

Police are hunting for rock throwers west of Sydney following a weekend attack from an overpass that left a woman showered in glass.

The incident happened on the M7 Motorway about 11.30am on February 6 when clumps of rock were hurled from the Eastern Road overpass near Rooty Hill.

“The car was travelling around 100km/h when the rocks shattered the vehicle’s tinted sunroof, showering the woman with glass,” a police statement says.

The 42-year-old female driver was uninjured, but the vehicle had to be towed due to the large amount of broken glass.

The uninjured driver pulled to the side of the motorway and contacted police.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
