Truckie charged with dangerous driving

Truckie to face court after his semi-trailer ploughs into the back of a car, killing the driver

February 16, 2010

A truck driver will face court after he ploughed into a car on the Princes Highway, killing the female driver.

The incident happened just after 8am today in South Australia, forcing police to close the road between Hahndorf and Mount Barker.

Police say the 45-year-old woman had parked her car in the emergency lane of the highway when the semi-trailer hit her from behind.

“The driver of the truck, a 66 year old man from Mypolonga, was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving,” a police spokeswoman says.

The truck driver was not injured and will go before Mount Barker Magistrates Court on March 31.

“Police remain at the scene of the fatal road crash on the Princes Highway near Hahndorf,” the spokeswoman says.

The death brings South Australia’s road toll to 26 this year, compared to 19 at the same time in 2009.
