Deluge drowns Bruce Highway

Section of the Bruce Highway closed to traffic due to heavy rain in northern Queensland

March 22, 2010

A section of the Bruce Highway in a northern region of Queensland has opened to traffic after being closed due to inclement weather.

Heavy rain that left excess water on the highway south of Marlborough forced police to close the route this morning.

The route opened about 1.30pm Queensland time, but other areas have been plagued by rain.

The Fitzroy Development Road north-west of Rockhampton has been closed in both directions.

Police anticipate the weather will also cause more traffic problems only weeks after storms closed down highways and local roads in south-west Queensland.

“There is heavy rain in the region and more road closures are expected,” a police statement says.
