Unemployment rate rises the first time since September last year, according to new statistics

Australia’s unemployment rate has risen the first time since September 2009, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The rate rose by 0.1 percent to 5.3 percent, with the ABS reporting the number of people unemployed increased – up 10,700 people to 615,900 in February.
The number of new people employed in February only rose by 400.
There was a rise in full-time employment to 7.660 million, which was offset by a fall in part-time employment which fell 11,000 people to 3.311 million.
The participation rate in February decreased 0.1 percentage points to 65.2 percent.
