New section of upgraded Pacific Hwy opens to cut travel times and improve safety

A new upgraded section of the Pacific Highway has opened today, cutting travel times on a 5km stretch of road.
The route south of Por Macquarie between Coopernook and Heron’s Creek has been upgraded to dual carriageway.
The NSW Government claims the extra lanes will cut travel times by three to four minutes and also make the road safer.
More than $3.5 billion will be pumped into the highway over six years by the federal and NSW governments to upgrade the road to dual carriageway.
Once works have been completed, motorists will be able to use four lanes from the F3 Freeway to Port Macquarie and from Ballina to the Queensland border.
There will also be dual carriageway between Sapphire and Woolgoolga and on the Kempsey Bypass.
“This is about making our busiest stretches of road safer and easier to drive as well as supporting the economy by investing in infrastructure,” NSW Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport David Borger says.
The Government says 300km of the 677km Pacific Highway between Hexham and the Queensland border has been upgraded and is now double lane divided road.
