Police seek help to piece together fatal crash

Crash investigators appeal for witnesses to fatal crash between two cars and a truck in Victoria

Victoria's crash investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help solve a fatal collision between two cars and a truck.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit is still trying to piece together details of the incident which happened on the Hume Freeway in the Victorian region of Kalkallo yesterday afternoon.

The 59-year-old female driver of one car died at the scene, with the 52-year-old female of the other car was taken to hospital. The 45-year-old truck driver was taken to hospital and has made a statement.

Police believe the 59-year-old's car was stationary on the freeway due to roadworks when it was hit by the truck.

"Investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the truck driving in the area prior to," a police statement reads.

The accident caused traffic delays on the freeway and brought Victoria's road toll to 56, six more deaths than the same period last year.
