Truck throws man ‘around 10 metres’

Police still investigating serious collision involving a truck that sent a man hurling through the air

March 22, 2010

Police are still investigating a serious collision involving a truck last week that sent a man hurling through the air, leaving him in a critical condition.

Police say a man had parked his utility on the side of the Bruce Highway in at Innisfail south of Cairns on March 20 while an 80-year-old man stood on the passenger side talking to the driver.

The vehicle was about 35cm in the traffic lane when the truck clipped the rear of it.

“The man was then hit by the utility throwing him around 10 metres,” police say.

He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery that evening. Queensland’s Forensic Crash Unit is continuing investigations.
