May 14, 2010

A truck caught fire and caused a blackout yesterday after hitting a power pole in Randwick, south of Sydney.

The truck reversed into the pole about 4:30pm, severing a power cable. A nursing home in the region lost power and had to rely on generators.

Emergency crews had to douse flames at the rear of the truck, while police officers worked to remove traffic delays.

“Police have spoken with the 68-year-old male truck driver and are continuing their inquiries into the cause of the crash,” a police statement says.
