May 14, 2010

A car caused a three-vehicle crash involving a utility and truck in Sydney yesterday, killing one woman.

The car collided with the utility at Sans Souci about 11:30am, causing the utility to crash into the truck travelling alongside it.

The 73-year-old female driver of the car died at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver of the utility suffered shock and was taken to hospital with the truck driver for mandatory blood and urine tests. The truck driver was not injured.

“A crime scene was established and inquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing,” a police statement says.

Meanwhile, police officers in the New England region of Inverell in NSW are investigating an incident where a cyclist was hit by a truck.

Police received reports about 4pm yesterday of a prime mover colliding with the cyclist on a local road.

“The 56-year-old male cyclist was thrown from his bike as a result of the impact and suffered head injuries and a dislocated shoulder,” a police statement says.

The truck driver was questioned by police but no charges have been laid.
