Construction firm Cut and Fill has won the $71 million contract to extend the Geelong Ring Road in Victoria.

When complete, there will be a single freeway connection from Anglesea Road at Waurn Ponds through to the Princes Highway at Mt Duneed.

State Roads Minister Tim Pallas says the Mt Duneed freeway extension will boost efficient access for freight, commuter and tourist traffic to and from the Geelong region and south western Victoria.

“The Ring Road western link will deviate from Anglesea Road near Hams Road through land reclaimed within the Blue Circle Quarry at Waurn Ponds, and will reconnect with the Princes Highway near Draytons Road,” Pallas says.

“This new connection will be welcomed by truck drivers who must now exit the Ring Road at Rossack Drive and travel west along the two-lane highway through the Waurn Ponds Valley.

“Importantly it also includes a large-scale rest area with separate truck and car parking bays, toilets and other facilities, to help combat driver fatigue.”

Completion is expected by year’s end.
