November 11, 2010

Rest areas along the Hume Highway in Victoria will receive greater parking capacity and toilets as part of multi-million dollar upgrades.

A total of 77 extra parking spaces will be added to six sites, with the rest area at Benton’s Hill receiving the most at 24.

VicRoads plans to add another 20 spaces to the Mokoan rest area, 16 to the site at Glenrowan and six at each of the Chiltern Park and Domniance rest areas.

The Reef Hills site will receive five additional spaces, along with a toilet block, landscaping and lighting.

Toilet blocks, landscaping and lighting will be added to the Glenrowan and Benton’s Hill sites, with VicRoads also planning pavement marking for the latter.

While Chiltern Park, Domniance and Mokoan will receive landscaping and lighting, VicRoads is not installing toilet blocks.

VicRoads received $8.19 million in federal funding for the rest areas, with the money also being spent on strengthening seven bridges in the Green Triangle region to accommodate super B-doubles.

The federal funding comes from the Government’s $70 million Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
