NSW Coalition commits funds to Newell Highway upgrade, which will boost access for road trains

The NSW Coalition has pledged to spend $750,000 upgrading a section of the Newell Highway to expand access for road trains and higher productivity vehicles.
Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell says money will be spent on structural and safety improvements to the Brocklehurst intersection on the Newell north of Dubbo if the Coalition wins this year’s state election.
The upgrade will allow long-awaited access into the multi-combination road and to a transport hub of Brocklehurst.
NatRoad has welcomed the election commitment and hopes it will be supported by other parties and independents in NSW to fix the “log jam”.
NatRoad director John Morris says the association has lobbied hard for the upgrade to improve safety for motorists and increase freight productivity.
Morris says he sent 15 applications last June to the council and the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority for road train access to Brocklehurst, but the requests were denied due to the configuration of the intersection.
