Works to begin on Queensland rest area, while new site will be built with enough parking space for 14 B-doubles

Works will begin in August to improve a key rest area near St Lawrence in Queensland as part of a multi-million dollar investment in the Bruce Highway.
Queensland Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace says the toilets, road surface and parking areas at the Waverley Creek rest area will be upgraded, along with the installation of new lighting.
He says a new rest area will also be constructed with enough parking for 14 B-doubles.
“In addition to this, we’re rehabilitating and sealing 26km of road shoulders on three sections of the Bruce Highway between Granite Creek and Freshwater Creek, as well as upgrading the access to the rest stop area.”
The works are expected to finish mid next year. The Federal Government says the Waverley Creek rest area is used by about 300 to 400 vehicles each week.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says the upgrade is part of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the lack of safe and modern roadside facilities.
“Truck drivers and the thousands of other users of the Bruce Highway will soon have more safe places to pull over and take a break,” Albanese says.
