GPS tracking busts truck thief

Trucking owner uses GPS to pinpoint a thief who took off with his truck and trailer carrying a Bobcat

June 6, 2011

A thief’s attempt to take off with a truck and trailer carrying a Bobcat was short-lived after the owner tracked the stolen goods using the vehicle’s in-built GPS unit.

South Australia Police received a call about 7:30pm yesterday advising them a truck and trailer carrying the Bobcat were stolen from a building site at Elizabeth West.

“What the thief didn’t realise was the truck had a GPS unit fitted. The owner was able to monitor the truck’s movement and subsequently directed police where to attend,” a South Australia Police statement says.

“The stolen Bobcat was no longer with the truck and trailer, but through the GPS the owner was then able to back track the areas the truck has been and stopped.”

South Australia Police says officers are continuing enquiries into further suspects and other stolen vehicles.
