Truck driver reimbursed $9,000 after employer fails to pay correct hourly rate and penalty entitlements

A truck driver has received $9,000 after his employer failed to pay correct hourly rate and penalty entitlements.

The driver from Victoria’s Gippsland region was compensated after a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation revealed the underpayments. Inspectors contacted the employer, who paid the money owed.

The driver was part of a group of employees from different industries in the Gippsland region that received a total of $30,000 in compensation.

In a statement, the Ombdusman says it recovered $13,400 for an administration officer who was subjected to unauthorised deductions and did not receive long service leave entitlements when she left the business.

A sales representative who was not paid for three months of work was reimbursed $7,600.

Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says all the businesses have now put processes in place to ensure the mistakes are not repeated.
