Rail work in Melbourne to bring traffic to a crawl

Truck drivers face lengthy delays from next week due to rail maintenance work in Melbourne

June 29, 2011

Truck drivers travelling in Melbourne’s west next week can expect lengthy delays as temporary closures of rail lines will see traffic come to a crawl.

Maintenance work will start on the Ballarat, Bendigo and Sydenham lines this Friday and go until July 18, which will see buses carry commuters on temporary bus lanes along Ballarat Road.

Bus lanes will be in force from 4am next Monday and will end at 10.30pm on July 15.

Motorists who drive in those lanes will be fined $366. Travel times are expected to be extended by up to 45 minutes.
