A section of the Cunningham Highway in Queensland will be temporarily closed on December 15 to allow an oversized truck to travel on the route.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads today told motorists and trucking operators to expect delays when Cunningham’s Gap, just over 80 minutes south-west of Brisbane, is closed from 9:30pm tomorrow to 4am on December 16.

The highway will be closed between the Fisher Park Truck Stop at Maryvale on the western side of the Gap and Lake Moogerah Road at Mount Edwards on the eastern side.

“There will not be any opportunity to pass through the Gap during this time,” the department says in a statement.

“This closure allows time for the load to travel through the Gap and for assessments to be carried out on the road before it is re-opened.”

The oversized truck and the accompanying escort vehicles are expected to arrive at Yamanto at 6am on December 16.

“It is expected to stop at Sugarloaf Road at Mutdapilly and at Willowbank to allow traffic to pass,” Transport and Main Roads says.

The department says a second load is planned to travel through the Gap at a later date and information will be provided to motorists and the trucking industry prior to the road closure.
