Lights On The Hill gears up for Gatton

Following last year's floods in south-east Queensland, the Lights On The Hill returns to its regular February date for 2012

February 8, 2012

The annual Lights on the Hill Convoy returns to the Lockyer Valley and to the Gatton Showgrounds on February 25.

Billed as the largest truck convoy staged in Queensland, the main section of the Lights on the Hill Convoy will leave the BP truck stop at Archerfield around 10am, while the Toowoomba section of the convoy will leave Brown
& Hurley’s Carrington Road premises around the same time.

As in previous years, it is expected hundreds of Brisbane trucks, owners, drivers and their families,
as well as many visiting from interstate,
will take
part of the convoy.

Both legs of the convoy will converge on the Gatton Showgrounds for a family day of activities and entertainment.

Following a change in management at Lights on the Hill Inc, an interim committee has been working flat out to stage the annual convoy around what has been its more usual running time of early in the year.

Lights on the Hill spokesperson Juanita Hohn says the interim committee was fully focused on staging the Convoy event and was confident the day would be as big and bright, if not better, than previous Convoy days.

Some of the activities and entertainments appearing on the day included kids' rides such as Lassiter’s Lost Mine, a merry-go-round, a trackless train and a laser skirmish for the bigger kids. Other children's activities will include three-legged races, egg and spoon races, balloon races and face painting.

There will be a fully stocked canteen providing food and drink, a Mr Whippy van, fairy floss, snow cones, a Dolly Varden coffee van and licensed bar facilities.

Static historic vehicle displays, a variety of trade displays and a variety of craft vendors will also be on show.

Live country music will be featured throughout the day but there’ll be a night time country music concert featuring such big names as The Wolverines, Jayne Denham, Travis Sinclair, Jeff Brown, the Bobkats and the Cross Country Band.
