NSW Police charges truck driver over a double-fatal crash on the Hume Highway in February

March 13, 2012

A truck driver will face court in May charged over an incident last month that killed two people on the Hume Highway.

NSW Police yesterday charged the 24-year-old with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of negligent driving causing death after his truck struck a 40-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman near Mittagong on February 15.

The man, who was a tow truck driver, stopped to assist the woman whose vehicle had broken down on the highway about 12:40pm. A southbound tabletop truck hit them a short time later.

The truck driver was taken to hospital suffering shock. He underwent mandatory blood and urine tests.

NSW Police says detectives have been conducting inquiries into the incident and investigations are ongoing. The man will appear in Moss Vale Local Court on May 8.
