Thousands attended a job and skills expo in Melbourne recently, with some eyeing off roles in the transport industry

More than 8980 people attended a job and skills expo in Melbourne’s south-east recently, with many approaching Transjobs for tips and advice about the transport industry.
Held in Dandenong, job seekers used the event to take advantage of the 1086 job opportunities on offer.
Attendees submitted 1463 resumes to 103 exhibitors, including Transjobs, which is a dedicated resource for transport, truck driving and supply chain jobs.
Some 710 job seekers may be one step closer to a job thanks to the expo, Minister for Human Services Kim Carr says.
“While unemployment rates in some regions have improved, there’s more work to be done in many places, including here in south eastern Melbourne,” Carr says.
Fiona Molloy, 41, from Rowville, is keen to leave behind her chef’s hat and enter the warehousing and logistics industry.
“I like a job where it’s a bit of hands-on work and a bit of paperwork,” Molloy says.
“I’m a chef by trade and I’d rather work with men as women in the kitchen are horrible.
“I’d like to do what I enjoy.”
She has just started looking for a job and says she’s pleased with the expo.
“It’s actually a lot bigger and better than what I thought it would be.”
Forty-eight job expos have been held since October 2009 across the country as part of the Federal Government’s $3 billion Building Australia’s Future Workforce package.
