Police reminder as school resumes

Queensland Police reminds motorists to keep an eye on speed limits as standardised school zone times begin today

April 16, 2012

Queensland Police is reminding motorists to keep an eye on speed limits as standardised school zone times begin for students returning to school today.

Acting Chief Superintendent Andy Morrow says police will be paying close attention to the behaviour of motorists around schools.

Speed limits at school zones across the south-east of the state are now standardised from 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm on school days.

“It is important that all drivers in the south-east are aware that in some cases school zone times in their areas may have changed,” Morrow says.

“We will be supporting parents, carers and school staff in the safety of their children by providing a visible enforcement presence in and around schools.”

The Queensland Government announced in January this year it would progressively introduce standardised school zone times throughout the state.

The changes take effect today in the south-east of the state, with the rest of Queensland moving to the new system by July 9.
