TNT Express has trained its focus on attracting more females into the transport and logistics industry in a bid to diversify its workforce.

The recruitment drive invites women working in traditionally female dominated industries such as retail, hospitality and reception to swap their current job for a career in the transport industry.

Dubbed Women in Transport, It highlights positives for women working in the sector, such as favourable conditions, high remuneration levels of between $70,000 and $90,000 and the freedom of working away from an office.

"We believe there is a huge untapped resource of underemployed women who would benefit from the many great advantages of becoming a driver or dockhand with TNT," TNT Managing Director Bob Black says.

The company says it hopes to attract more females to traditionally male-dominated roles and to change people’s perception of the industry.

"There is certainly a perception in wider society that men are more suited to roles such as truck driving, and in our industry that has historically been the norm," TNT’s Director of Human Resources, Susan Davies, says.

"But these misconceptions are completely false, particularly today when a majority of our drivers operate smaller vehicles and all manual handling tasks are strictly regulated by occupational health and safety laws.

"The traditional barriers which may once have deterred women from entering our industry are now defunct and we are hoping this campaign will convince women to consider a career as a driver or dock hand."

The campaign will run online and in print until April 30, and TNT has encouraged women seeking more information and wanting to apply for roles to click here.
