Victoria Police will be targeting speed, mobile phone and seat belt offences in Melbourne’s hot spots today.

Members in marked and unmarked vehicles will target known areas as part of Operation Knockdown.

Police Sergeant Greg Dean says the operation has utilised intelligence to identify a number of locations where motorists continually show disregard for road safety.

"We will be focussing heavily on the Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond areas and warn that motorists that think they can get away with disregarding road safety should think again," Dean says.

The operation will continue in the coming months.
