Two people have died and a stretch of the Bruce Highway has been closed after a truck and utility collide

Two people have died and a stretch of road on the Bruce Highway has been closed after a truck and utility collided in Far North Queensland.

The vehicles collided just before 8.30am today about 2km south of Koumala, near Mackay.

Another person was seriously injured and is currently in a critical condition.

“The highway is currently closed in both directions, with diversions in place for northbound traffic,” a statement from Queensland Police says.

“Motorists travelling southbound are experiencing heavy delays.”
