June 15, 2012

Nominations have opened for the Australian Freight Industry Awards, which recognises some of the trucking industry’s best and brightest.

Run by the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), the awards will be presented on September 1 at Crown Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne. Nominations spanning six categories will close on August 15.

VTA CEO Phil Lovel has urged companies to nominate for the awards, which include recognising best practice safety, investment in people, business sustainability and personality of the year.

"The prestigious AFIAs recognise companies and individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their work more innovative, efficient and safe," Lovel says.

"Entering the awards is a powerful demonstration that shows your organisation values employees and their contributions."

The VTA says it will soon release nomination forms and invitations to the awards night.

The Australian Freight Industry Awards in 2012 is made up of:

• Australian Transport and Logistics Investment in People Award

• Australian Transport and Logistics Best Practice Safety Award

• Australian Transport and Logistics Technology Award

• Australian Transport and Logistics Young Achiever of the Year Award

• Australian Transport and Logistics Business Sustainability Award

• Australian Transport and Logistics Personality of the Year

The VTA says the Investment in People Award recognises companies that have undertaken or are undertaking to recruit, train and up-skill their employees.

The Best Practice Safety Award highlights companies that have implemented innovative and practical safety solutions, while the Logistics Technology Award identifies an individual, group or organisation which has used technology to improve the running of the business.

The Young Achiever gong is designed to recognise rising stars in the industry who display strong a work ethic and positive attitude.

A company that can show initiatives such as best practice management techniques and a commitment to reducing its environmental footprint will be in the running for the Business Sustainability Award.

The VTA says the Personality of the Year Award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry over a long period of time.
