June 22, 2012

The Australian Trucking Association’s NSW branch will join forces with a number of other organisations in August to celebrate TruckWeek2012.

The ATA NSW, Sydney Ports Corporation, rt health fund and Patrick Stevedores will stage a barbecue at Port Botany from 7am to 8am for four days from August 20 to 24.

Sydney Ports CEO Grant Gilfillan and ATA NSW Manager Jill Lewis plan to use the event to listen to what truck drivers have to say about port facilities and other issues.

"Port Botany sees a huge number of trucks through the gates every day. The trucking industry is an essential part of port operations, and TruckWeek is the perfect time to acknowledge this," Gilfillan says.

"This event provides us with a great opportunity to speak directly with drivers about their jobs and any issues they may have. These are the people at the coal face and their opinions are very important to helping us all drive greater efficiencies in port supply chain and logistics."

The rt health fund’s chief medical officr, Dr Jui Tham, will also carry out free health checks for drivers ranging from blood pressure tests, heart checks, respiratory function tests and BMI measurements.

TruckWeek 2012 will run from August 19 to 25.
