Lane closures as M2 upgrade continues

Work on the M2 tunnel in New South Wales later this week will result in changed traffic conditions

July 31, 2012

Work is expected to start on the M2 tunnel in New South Wales later this week, with works to be completed on August 6.

Changed traffic conditions will be in place from this Friday, but one lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

The westbound Lane Cove Road on-ramp will be closed from 11am to 6pm on Sunday, August 5 and the Beecroft Road westbound off-ramp will close from 7pm Saturday to 9am on the same day. The speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h in the contra-flow area.

All traffic will be moved on to the new city bound tunnel from Monday. There will be two lanes open in each direction.

The changes are part of the $550 million Hills M2 upgrade which will widen the tunnels to three lanes in each direction when complete. The westbound tunnel widening is expected to take about eight months to complete, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.
