Road users caught flouting traffic laws in Western Australia face double demerit points from midnight tonight until midnight on Monday.
Police and Road Safety Minister Liza Harvey says the double demerit points are in place for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend for drink driving, speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt and carrying passengers in the open load space of a vehicle.
However, monetary fines remain the same.
“It is important for WA drivers to remember that there will be a lot more vehicles on the road during this long weekend and to drive with caution,” Harvey says.
“I encourage road users to pay attention to the road, not get distracted or drive fatigued, and adopt safe driving methods.”
