Safety upgrades have commenced at the Newell Highway and Tallimba Road intersection near West Wyalong in New South Wales.

The $5.4 million project will help improve transport efficiency and road safety, Murrumbidgee MP Adrian Piccoli says.

"This is good news for the thousands of vehicles which use this major corridor between Queensland and Victoria each year," he says.

"At the moment motorists travelling through the intersection need to slow down and negotiate a 90 degree turn to continue on the road.

"Work includes realigning the road by removing the bend so it travels in a straight line."

Once completed, the speed limit on the road will be 110km/h, he adds. The work is expected to be finished by June next year.
