Ron Finemore Transport’s Jacinta Macaulay has been named the 2012 Safety Ambassador of the Year for her commitment to improving workplace health and safety.

Macaulay, who is the company’s Return to Work and Claims Officer, implemented a number of safety initiatives after analysing recurring injuries in the business to identify areas of improvement.

The initiatives included customised solutions like a fifth-wheel coupling aid and retro-fitting of chequer plating to truck access ladders.

Macaulay also introduced a new truck seat to minimise injuries for truck drivers and helped develop work health and safety training for new starters.

Workplace Relations Minister Bill Shorten presented the award to Macaulay today at ceremony in Canberra.

"Through her initiative, leadership and consultation with managers and staff at all levels Ms Macaulay has made her workplace safer, committing herself to identifying and rectifying issues within her workplace," Shorten says.

The Safety Ambassador of the Year Award was open to individuals who demonstrated a commitment to improving work health and safety in their organisation in 2011-12.

It recognised those who raise the awareness of the importance of a safe working environment and encourage others to become involved in work health and safety.
