Overheight truck damages M5 tunnel

Overheight truck hits the roof of the M5 tunnel and causes "significant structural damage"

November 1, 2012

An overheight truck has hit and damaged the roof of the M5 tunnel in Sydney’s south today.

The truck entered the motorway at Arncliffe before 10am and travelled about 200 metres down the on-ramp. New South Wales Police says the vehicle caused “significant structural damage to the tunnel roof”.

Police, the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and engineers were dispatched to the scene, and the on-ramp was closed. A salvage operation is now underway to remove the truck so repairs can begin.

NSW Police has warned motorists to expect delays. The M5 East main tunnel remains open and unaffected by the on-ramp closure.
