GBR Transport is the latest company to become a member of
safety accreditation program TruckSafe.

Taking the step was important in ensuring the company abides by all legal requirements, General Manager Paul English says.

Based in Victoria, it has a fleet of 12 prime movers, six refrigerated trailers and six refrigerated rigid trucks.

"As part of TruckSafe, we’ve changed the way we do a lot of things," English says.

"The TruckSafe standards give us confidence that our drivers are fit for work, our vehicles are roadworthy, our maintenance is up to scratch and our workshop has clear procedures to follow."

Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chief Executive Stuart St Clair praised GBR’s move, describing it as one of the country’s safest trucking operators.

"Independent statistics show that TruckSafe operators are twice as safe as non-accredited operators, while insurance statistics from National Transport Insurance show that TruckSafe operators make a third fewer claims than non-accredited operators," St Clair says.

TruckSafe is formally recognised in Victoria as an industry code of practice under the state’s road safety law.
