Bushfires have closed the Hume and Princes highways in New South Wales

January 8, 2013

Bushfires have closed the Hume and Princes highways in New South Wales.

Both directions on the Hume Highway are closed near Tarcutta, east of Wagga Wagga, with traffic being diverted via the Stuart Highway and Wagga Wagga to the Olympic Highway.

Drivers are advised to steer clear of Wandandian as the Princes Highway is shut, with no alternative routes available.

“It is a hellish day out there, very similar to those conditions we had in 2009,” Australian Trucking Association NSW (ATA NSW) Manager Jodie Broadbent says.

“I just hope everyone stays safe and looks after each other.”

Fire smoke is affecting visibility on the Oura Road between Wantabadgery Road and Eunony Bridge Road on the Sturt Highway and the Princes Highway at Terpentine Road south of Nowra.
