The Wettenhalls Group is under administration, with accountancy Ferrier Hodgson in charge.

While unable to go into detail, a Ferrier Hodgson spokesman confirms that two of the firm’s partners, Brendan Richards and George Georges, have been appointed receivers and managers.

Transport Workers Union (TWU) State Secretary Wayne Mader has spoken on radio about the union’s concerns for about 200 jobs nationally.

ATN was awaiting a return call from the TWU at deadline but Mader told ABC Radio that half the employees were in Victoria and they were “in total shock” and feared for their entitlements.

“We’re just hopeful that the company and the administrator will ensure that all monies that are owed to employees for their entitlements and work done is going to be honoured,” Mader says.

The venerable trucking firm, founded in 1925 and headquartered near Melbourne, has 10 premises in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

Its transport and logistics services stretch from wharf haulage to interstate trucking and the firm has focused amongst other things on food and dairy freight.
