More needs to be done to improve road safety despite the drop in heavy vehicle fatality figures, the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) Forum was told.

Held in Melbourne, the two-day forum, which commenced yesterday, saw key leaders within the logistics sector talk about safety.

Blue Scope Steel Supply Chain General Manager Ingilby Dickson says industry and government can do more to find ways to improve road safety outcomes.

“The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal are still in their infancy and it is timely to throw a spotlight on them to assess how they are going to lead to improved safety in the heavy vehicle industry,” Dickson says.

Panellists also spoke about safety codes and the role they play in the industry.
