A council in Melbourne’s west has been asked to lobby the Victorian Government to introduce night time and weekend truck curfews.

The Truck Curfew Review Committee (TCRC) wants trucks heavier than 4.5 tonnes banned from using Moore Street in Footscray from 8pm to 6am Monday to Friday and 8pm to 6am Friday to Monday.

It has asked the Maribyrnong Council to request a meeting with Roads Minister Terry Mulder and seek a commitment to the development of metropolitan intermodal terminals.

The committee also wants an investigation into alternative links for trucks to the Port of Melbourne.

The TCRC believes VicRoads should make a recommendation of preferred alternative truck routes and install curfew signs in the area.
