Stolen Kenworth comes home to Skidmore


Thieves ditch 1980 SAR Kenworth after running out of fuel. The truck has now been returned to Skidmore Transport Equipment

Thieves fascinated by a vintage Kenworth truck who took it for a two-day joyride in regional Victoria have abandoned it after running out of fuel.

The 1980 SAR Kenworth is back with owner Rod Skidmore, who runs Skidmore Transport Equipment.

A search began last Thursday morning after Skidmore noticed his prized truck was missing from the business’s Sebastopol premises.

The truck was found on the side of a dirt road near Wallan last Friday with an empty fuel tank. Its radio and a toolbox had gone missing.

"I’m glad it’s back home. At least they didn’t burn it which is a good thing," Skidmore says.

"It ran out of fuel going up the hill and the police is still doing further investigations."

Skidmore says the thieves caused $4,000 worth of damage to the truck after driving it through a fence. A two-axle drop deck trailer was attached to the truck and later found in Ballarat.
