Funding to prolong life of key bridges

Bridges in Bendigo region of Victoria will get a facelift as part of the State Government’s $1.2 million bridge upgrades

Bridges in the Bendigo region of Victoria will get a facelift as part of the State Government’s $1.2 million bridge upgrades.

The funding will improve the efficiency of freight movement and support export businesses in the region.

Bridges on the Bridgewater-Maldon Road and Bendigo-Pyramid Road will be widened and have their load capacity increased to accommodate key freight routes.

With the average age of Victoria’s bridges on arterial roads being 40 years, Transport Minister Terry Mulder says the investment will prolong the service life of the two bridges to 100 years.

“This is a well thought-out and smart investment which has been developed through extensive consultation with industry,” Mulder says.

“The projects are designed to provide the maximum benefit for the State’s regional freight network by boosting productivity and efficiency.”
