Motoring body welcomes funding for important road

NRMA says $43 million for Bells Line of Road will improve safety and ensure important long-term freight route

June 17, 2013

Motoring group NRMA has welcomed a $43 million pledge from the New South Wales Government to upgrade the Bells Line of Road.

The NRMA has long lobbied for funds from the State and Federal governments to make the road, which runs from North Richmond through to the Blue Mountains, safer and plan for future upgrades.

NRMA President Wendy Machin says the announcement by Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner of $43 million for safety upgrades and planning money will be well received by communities in western NSW and north-west Sydney.

“If we fix the Bells Line of Road there are not only obvious safety benefits but in the long-term it can act as an important freight route connecting Sydney to western NSW,” Machin says.
