NTC provides information to operators on new charges

Guide provides information on increase to fuel excise and registration charges from July 1

June 18, 2013

The National Transport Commission (NTC) has put together an information schedule on new registration and road user charges to apply from July 1.

Along with listing the increase of 0.64 cents per litre to the fuel excise, the guide also breaks down the registration fees for vehicle combinations, trucks and trailers.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese recently issued a determination stating the excise would increase to 26.14 cents per litre at the beginning of the new financial year.

“During March 2013, the NTC released the proposed increase in the RUC [road user charge] for public consultation,” the NTC says.

“The NTC’s recommendation was subsequently approved by the federal minister for infrastructure and transport, while the adjustment to the registration charges is automatic under the Model Heavy Vehicle Charges Act.

The schedule also provides information on how charges are calculated, why charges need to increase and the work currently underway to develop a new heavy vehicle charging determination.
