The Pacific Highway in New South Wales has been named the worst road in a new poll of drivers.

Over 10,000 drivers responded to car insurer NRMA’s survey Seeing Red on Roads Campaign, where they also identified Parramatta Road and Pennant Hills Road.

Congestion, lack of lanes and poor road surface were the main let-downs for motorists on the highway, NRMA President Wendy Machin says.

She says it is unacceptable the highway it still has not been duplicated 20 years after a major bus crash at Kempsey and Grafton.

"While it’s clear now the 2016 deadline for the duplication of the Pacific Highway won’t be achieved, that doesn’t mean the NRMA will stop putting pressure on the Federal and State governments to finish the upgrade as soon as possible," Machin says.
