FWO inspectors head to Sunshine Coast

Fair Work Ombudsman heads to Sunshine Coast to give employers and employees advice on workplace rights and responsibilities

July 10, 2013

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) will be on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast next week to give employers and workers advice on workplace rights and responsibilities.

Inspectors will run a free presentation for employers on July 16 between 4pm and 5.30pm at Lake Kawana Community Centre.

The FWO says the presentation will provide an overview of the Fair Work system, including employment standards and modern awards, and cover topics such as common employer oversights and work practices to avoid. Employers will also be given the opportunity to ask questions.

Inspectors will also be available to answer questions about pay and other aspects of workplace laws on July 17 between 8.30am and 5.00pm at the Mike Ahearn Building at Maroochydore.

The FWO will operate an information booth at the Sunshine Coast Daily Careers Expo on July 18 between 10am and 2pm and again between 4pm and 7pm at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

“A big part of the Fair Work Ombudsman’s role is to help build knowledge in the community about workplace laws and to help create fairer workplaces,” Fair Work inspector Robert Evans says.

“Opportunities where we can speak directly to employers, employees, and people who may be about to start a new job or be a future employer, are an important way to help achieve that.

“We encourage anyone on the Sunshine Coast who would like to learn more about national workplace laws to take advantage of the advice being offered at these events.”

The Kawana event is being run in conjunction with the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and employers wanting to attend need to register by calling 07 5470 8172 or emailing their name, phone number and business name to this address.

Employers and employees wanting to chat to inspectors at Maroochydore can drop in between 8.30am and 5pm or make an appointment by calling 07 4699 5856 or emailing.
