VicRoads has launched a new traffic website which will provide congestion information and live traffic cameras.

The VicTraffic website is now available on desktops and mobile devices via VicRoads’s website and through the iPhone and Android app.

An extension of the Road Closures and Traffic Alerts website which was launched in 2011, the website will provide crucial information for road users, including road works, major events like fun runs or festivals and freeway travel times.

“This is real-time information which can help millions of Victorians avoid delays by checking the website before they leave home or work,” VicRoads Road Operations Director Dean Zabrieszach says.

“Previously, the website only allowed users to check a small number of Melbourne’s freeways and major arterial roads. We’ve expanded this to the entire network, giving users the ability to zoom in on areas they need information on.

“The addition to live cameras, providing users with the ability to call up still images from sections of the network, will enable millions of Victorians to be well informed about what’s happening on the roads.”

He says the website is one of the most sophisticated in the country, offering live updates around the clock, seven days a week.
