Latest video warns against overtaking turning trucks

ATA releases second of several videos designed to educate motorists on how to share roads safely with heavy vehicles

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has released the second of several videos designed to educate motorists on how to share roads safely with heavy vehicles.

The video includes information on why overtaking turning vehicles is a bad idea and why keeping a distance between a truck when at roundabouts is encouraged.

ATA CEO Stuart St Clair says while signs telling motorists not to overtake turning vehicles are well known, not all motorists understand them.

“Australian drivers just aren’t taught how to share the road safely with heavy vehicles, which can lead to a number of dangerous situations,” St Clair says.

“While we’re all responsible for making our roads a safer place, motorists can find helpful advice on how to avoid preventable accidents like these in the ATA’s Truckies Top Tips and these videos.”

The videos will be on display in the ATA’s safety truck, which is fitted out as a mobile education centre and travels across the country to promote road safety.

The final footage will be released next week.
