The South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) has been given a seat on the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s committee looking at a proposed five-star safety rating scheme for the trucking industry.

The group was given the nod to be a part of the committee after a month-long wait.

SARTA Executive Director Steve Shearer had earlier this month expressed his views on the group’s website over the lack of NHVR’s response.

The NHVR has commenced the process to establish a national steering committee and had recently put a call out to those interested in overseeing a feasibility study of the five-star scheme.

Several groups have been contacted to nominate members.

The scheme is designed to rate companies based on how safe they are. Proponents want those with a higher rating to be rewarded.
