More cops on the beat for Operation Phoenix

Drivers can expect more police officers on New South Wales roads following the launch of a new enforcement operation

September 25, 2013

Drivers can expect more police officers on New South Wales roads following the launch of a new enforcement operation to curb the State’s road toll.
Operation Pheonix II is currently underway and will run in three phases until December.

Officers will patrol major highways, targeting dangerous drivers with random breath testing and speed enforcement.

“This operation will mean more patrols on our major highways and roads leading up to the Christmas period, when we generally see more motorists on the road,” traffic and highway patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley says.

“We don’t want to see another tragic day like last month when seven people lost their lives.

“We will be focused on driving down the road toll and educating motorists about being safe on our roads.”
